Projects

A project holds your areas, area groups, orders and control data, and it is what access is granted on.

How projects work

  • Every project is invite-only. You cannot join a project yourself or browse projects you are not in.
  • Being a project member is the only way to reach its work. Each member has one project role. See Roles and permissions.
  • Project names are unique within a workspace (case sensitive), up to 60 characters.

Creating a project needs workspace Admin or Member. Editing, deleting and managing members needs project Manager or workspace Admin (whether or not the Admin is in the project).

The Main project

Every new workspace starts with a project called "Main" (Role on arrival: Viewer), which can start with nobody in it. A workspace Admin sees none of its work until they add themselves. For an empty switcher, see The project switcher.

Choose a project

Use the sidebar's Project switcher; New Order and Add Area need a single project selected. See The project switcher.

Find a project in Settings

Go to Settings > Projects. A workspace Admin sees every project, with a Not a member chip on those they are not in; everyone else sees only their own projects. Click a project name to open Project Settings.

Create a project

On Settings > Projects, click Create Project. Description is optional (up to 500 characters); the logo is optional (JPEG or PNG, up to 2 MB). Role on arrival defaults to Viewer.

You become the project's Manager.

Edit a project

On Project Settings, click the pencil icon (Edit project) to change the name, description, Role on arrival or logo.

Role on arrival

The role someone gets when nobody names one: when a team with this project as a default project puts them in it, or when a whole team is added to the project. Changing it does not change anyone already in the project. A workspace Viewer always arrives as Viewer.

Manage project members

The Project Members table on Project Settings is visible to every project member and every workspace Admin. Pending invitees appear at the role they will hold once they accept.

Add a member

Click Add Member and pick a person or team. This is also how an Admin adds themselves.

  • You can add anyone in the workspace, including pending invitees. A workspace Viewer can only be added as Viewer.
  • Adding a team adds everyone in it at the project's Role on arrival and makes this project one of the team's default projects, so later team members are added too. People already in the project keep their role. See Teams.

Change a member's role

Pick the new role in the member's Role select; it saves straight away. A project can lose its last Manager; a workspace Admin can always add one back.

Remove a member

Use Remove from Project in the member's row menu. For an API key (Remove API Key from Project), the key stops reading this project's tiles within a minute.

Leave a project

Anyone can use Leave Project in their own row menu. You lose access to everything in the project straight away.

note

A team default never puts you back in a project you left or were removed from. To return, a project Manager or workspace Admin adds you again and chooses your role.

Areas from other projects

Bring in an existing area shows an area in another project without copying it, so that project's members can read it and order over it. See Home and linked areas.

Move work between projects

Moves change nothing about status, billing or credit. The target project must not already hold an item with the same name, and you can only pick projects you are in.

Delete a project

Use the trash icon on Project Settings (or Delete Project in the row menu) and type the project name. Albatross refuses while:

  • the project holds any order of any status, cancelled included. Delete its drafts and move the rest first.
  • any of its areas carries a non-cancelled deliverable from another project's order. Move those areas first.

The refusal appears only after you confirm.

Deleting removes the project's areas, area groups, control data, links to other projects' areas, memberships and its place in any team's default projects.

warning

Deleting a project cannot be undone. There is no archive option.
